Hi friends! Toby here!
I was at the Shelter the other day, you know, just fulfilling my duties as the Shelter mascot (meaning that I was napping and being adored by the staff and volunteers), and I was thinking about how to adequately prepare you all for Toby’s Pet Parade & Fair coming up in just 2 months, on September 16. I’m hoping to see the best of the best costumes this year and I can’t wait to see the incredible creativity bound to walk down Washington Avenue! But first, I must make sure you’re ready and equipped with the right information. And as I was thinking about all of this it hit me – duh…just ask Axel Rose!!
Axel Rose is one of my best buds and he is easily the coolest cat (wait, I mean dog) that I know! He strutted his stuff in Toby’s Pet Parade & Fair last year and he was, in a nutshell, AMAZING!
So, I woofed to him and he woofed back with some great tips and tricks to help get you ready for the event. Read below for the paw-some interview!
Hey Axel! I’m so excited that you could take some time out of your crazy schedule to help get everyone ready for Toby’s Pet Parade & Fair! I just know you’ll have some great advice. So, tell me about your experience last year at Toby’s Pet Parade & Fair.
I had SOO much fun at Toby’s Pet Parade & Fair last year that I am going to do it again. My mom and I were a fish and a fisherwoman. We met lots of other dogs and saw my favorite people from Foothills Animal Shelter.
I remember that! You two looked so great in your coordinating outfits. A crowd favorite for sure! How did your mom come up with the costume?
My mom thought it up and made my costume from an old t-shirt and some fabric paint.
Crafty and creative, I love it! You’re so lucky you have a mom like that! What was your favorite part about last year’s Toby’s Pet Parade & Fair?
My favorite part really was the parade itself, and seeing all the other dogs and people in costume. I also got lots of treats.
Trust me, from one treat lover to another, I know exactly what you mean! Have you ever gone into a treat coma from all your treats? Let me tell you, this one time…..wait, I’m getting off topic, never mind. What are you most excited about for this year’s event?
I am excited about a new costume because I really like to dress up! 🙂
Ah, a dog after my own heart! Do you have any costume ideas up your sleeve for this year’s parade?
That’s a secret but I have some ideas that might have something to do with my “ethnicity.”
Okay, okay I get it. A master chef never shares his most secret ingredient! Well, I for one cannot WAIT to see your costume this year. I mean, I know it will be hard to top last year’s costume, but no doubt you will! How do you prepare for Toby’s Pet Parade & Fair?
We take lots of walks so we are in good shape for the parade.
Uh huh, uh huh got it! I’ve got to remember that little piece of advice for myself! Okay, and finally, any tips and tricks for those participating for the first time this year?
Pick a good costume, but one that is easy to walk in and not too hot. Sign up early and bring your smile for pictures!
And there you have it folks – tips and tricks of the trade from a seasoned Toby’s Pet Parade & Fair participant! I sure hope you got as much out of this as I did. Thank you again to my good friend Axel Rose! Be sure to lookout for him and his costume on September 16! And with that, I am off to nap. Until next time!
Bow wow wow,
Your pal Toby
