Hi Friends! Toby here!
Well folks, we did it, we actually did it! Just last Saturday we celebrated the second annual Toby’s Pet Parade & Fair in downtown Golden! And overall, it was such a SMASHING success!! We had 165 dogs walk down Washington Avenue for the parade and around 1,500 people come and attend the fair. And, the best part? We raised over $50,000 to help the thousands of homeless pets that come to Foothills Animal Shelter every year! I also had the absolute best time this year kicking off the parade and schmoozing at the fair.
Well to start off, let me tell you, it was an early morning for all of us getting things ready for the big event. We were there before the sun came up, setting up the fair and coordinating the parade route. By the time the parade started I was a little sleepy and the Crosley was just so comfortable that is was a little tough to sit up for everyone… anyways, once my friend Mary and I walked it off a bit, we were ready to start!
And boy, what an experience it was walking down Washington Avenue with over 165 pooches following me. I’ve never felt that kind of excitement and adrenaline before! And despite some rather dreary weather, downtown Golden was thoroughly brightened by the hundreds of cheerful and fun costumes strutting down the street.
After the parade, I spent some time on stage with the judges helping them figure out who the big winners of the day would be. Whew, that was one of the hardest things to do because there were so many PAW-SOME costumes out there. There was even a costume of the actual Golden Arch! I mean, come on, how can you even pick just a handful of winners with the amount of sheer creativity like that!? Luckily, our judges were such pros and were able to choose six great winners.
Once the winners were picked and the prizes were awarded it was time to par-tay! The fair was such a blast! We had so many different vendors at Parfet Park that it took hours just to go up and down to visit them all. I scored some yummy treats from Bentley’s Pet Stuff and even hung out at Grandma’s Frozen Noodles big red truck where I met a new friend. And of course, I can’t talk about the fair without mentioning Phantom Flyers Flyball Club! It was so neat to watch them perform and it even inspired me to get moving more (although, we’ll see if that actually happens – hey, I told you I loved to nap). Live music, food trucks and a mobile underwater dog treadmill (yes, you read that right) rounded out the day, and we were all pooped by the time it was all over. And P.S. I did NOT spend most of my time by the food trucks, contrary to popular belief 😊!
Thank you to everyone who came out, dressed up and supported Foothills Animal Shelter! Like I said, it was a great success for everyone involved and we all had so much fun with this community event. We are already planning for 2018 and we can’t wait to see this event grow bigger and bigger each year! Although, right now I think we all deserve a nap and some of our favorite jerky treats. Am I right, or am I right!? So, let’s all take a quick break, pat ourselves on the back, and start dreaming of costumes for next year. 2018 here we come! Until next time!
